A train accident occurred at Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi, West
Java, involving the long-distance train (KAJJ) Argo Bromo Anggrek and
the Cikarang-line KRL Commuter Line. The incident took place on Monday
night (27 April 2026).

Several pieces of information have been gathered regarding the event,
from the chronology of the collision and the latest victim data to
suspected causes still under investigation. Here is the latest summary
of the incident.

Chronology of KRL Being Hit by KAJJ

The accident is believed to have begun with an initial incident at a
crossing near Bekasi Timur Station. Initially, an electric taxi was hit
by the KRL on the track towards Jakarta.

The taxi was hit by the KRL because it was crossing the tracks. This
collision disrupted the journey.

“So the KRL had a taxi that obstructed it at the JPL (direct crossing
path) near Bulak Kapal. This caused the KRL to stop,” said Manager of
Public Relations for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, when contacted
on Monday (27 April 2026).

As a result of the first accident incident, a KRL heading to Cikarang
stopped at Bekasi Timur Station. This second KRL was on the same track
as the Argo Bromo Anggrek train. Shortly afterwards, the Argo Bromo
Anggrek train collided with the rear of the Cikarang-bound KRL.

“The KRL stopped, and behind it was the Argo Bromo train,” he
added.

The impact was reported to be quite severe, causing major damage to
the train carriages. Even the front of the long-distance train is said
to have penetrated the women’s carriage of the KRL.

Victim Data and Evacuation Process

The latest data shows the number of fatalities reaching 14 people,
while dozens others sustained injuries.

“Update 08:45 WIB: 14 dead, 84 injured victims, handling process
still ongoing,” said VP Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba in a
written statement on Tuesday (28 April 2026).

All the deceased victims were reported to be female. This was stated
directly by Basarnas.

“One hundred percent of those we evacuated (victims) are women,” said
Head of Basarnas Major General M Syafii to reporters at the scene on
Tuesday (28 April 2026).

Meanwhile, all 240 passengers of the Argo Bromo Anggrek train were
successfully evacuated in safe condition.

“All passengers of the Argo Bromo Anggrek train, numbering 240
people, have been successfully evacuated in safe condition,” said Anne
Purba.

From the staff side, there were no fatalities. “There are no victims
from KAI,” said President Director of PT KAI Bobby Rasyidin during a
press conference at Bekasi Timur Station on Tuesday (28 April 2026).

The evacuation process itself was stated to have been completed on
Tuesday morning. “Alhamdulillah, thanks to the cooperation of all
parties, the SAR operation could be carried out as expected, and this
morning at 08:00 it was completed,” said M Syafii.

Suspected Causes and Investigation

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Preliminary suspicions point to operational disruptions or railway
system issues due to the initial incident at the crossing.

“I would also like to convey that this incident happened just before
21:00 WIB, starting with the obstruction by a green taxi, at JPL 85.
This is what we suspect caused the railway system in the Bekasi Timur
station area to be somewhat disrupted,” explained Bobby Rasyidin.

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) has assured that the
National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) will conduct an
investigation to uncover the exact cause of the accident.

“We are also giving the opportunity to KNKT to carry out the
investigation, to objectively examine the cause of the accident that
occurred last night,” said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi
at Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi City, on Tuesday (28 April 2026).

Operational Impact and Handling

This incident has impacted train operations in the Bekasi area and
surroundings.
