Summarecon builds military sector base<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Private property developer PT Summarecon Agung
\nhanded over a building yesterday to be used as a military sector
\nbase at its Kelapa Gading housing complex in North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Sumarecon's president, Soetjipto Nagaria, symbolically handed
\nover the building, which cost Rp 170 million (US$64,150) to
\nbuild, to Jakarta Military Commander Maj. Gen. Sutiyoso.<\/p>\n
During the ceremony yesterday, Sutiyoso also received land
\ntitles certificates for the building from North Jakarta Mayor
\nSuprawito. The site for the Kelapa Gading military sector office
\nis owned by the city administration.<\/p>\n
The building has a 350-square-meter office, a 150-square-meter
\nmeeting room, a dormitory and a park outside.<\/p>\n
In his speech, Sutiyoso praised Summarecon for delivering a
\ngood building.<\/p>\n
\"The presence of the new military base will help secure the
\nKelapa Gading housing complex and ensure a safe atmosphere for
\nits residents,\" said the two-star general, who has been widely
\ntipped to be the next governor of Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The newly inaugurated Kelapa Gading military sector is one of
\n48 in the city.<\/p>\n
According to Soetjipto, Summarecon has also built, or is
\nplanning to build, several other public and social facilities,
\nincluding a mosque, a health center, schools, parks, a fire
\nbrigade station and a police subprecinct office.<\/p>\n
The facilities are to be completed in the next five years.<\/p>\n
He denied reports that Summarecon had failed to provide public
\nand social facilities in the Kelapa Gading housing complex.<\/p>\n
\"The criticisms were made by people who don't like us. We
\nstarted to build the facilities ten years ago,\" he said. (jun)<\/p>",
