        "content": "<p>Sumedang (ANTARA) - The Sumedang Regency Government in West Java is\ncontinuously reinforcing the Environmentally Friendly School Programme\nas an effort to build an environmental care culture from an early age\nwhile addressing waste issues in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Sumedang Regent Dony Ahmad Munir stated that the Environmentally\nFriendly School Programme serves as a strategic step in responding to\nthe waste problem, which reaches more than 176,000 tonnes or around 483\ntonnes per day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want schools to become centres of change. Not just places for\nacademic learning, but also strategic locations for building awareness\nand environmentally friendly behaviour in addressing waste issues,\u201d he\nsaid in his statement in Sumedang on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>His side is encouraging the implementation of the Zero Waste School\nconcept across all educational units through various positive\nactivities, such as sorting waste, maintaining school environmental\ncleanliness, reducing the use of single-use plastics, and habituating\nstudents to bring their own eating and drinking containers.<\/p>\n<p>The Sumedang Regency Government targets all schools in the area to\ngradually implement similar programmes to support the reduction of waste\nvolume entering the Final Disposal Site (TPA).<\/p>\n<p>According to Dony, the programme is beginning to show positive\nimpacts on the school environment and the surrounding community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere must be real change. Schools become cleaner, students are more\ncaring towards the environment, and the impacts are starting to be felt\nin the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Dony hopes that the environmentally friendly school movement can\ncontinue to develop and become a shared culture, not only in school\nenvironments but also in the midst of society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is our commitment to continue carrying it out; we are not only\nsolving environmental problems but also shaping a generation that is\nresponsible for the future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to through environmentally friendly schools, the Sumedang\nRegency Government is also continuously encouraging waste reduction at\nthe source through waste sorting education, the establishment of waste\nbanks, compost processing, and increasing community participation in\nmaintaining environmental cleanliness.<\/p>",
