The issue of what is being termed ‘deviant’ sexual behaviour or LGBT
has drawn the attention of the Sumedang Regency Government and the
Regional House of Representatives (DPRD). Both institutions have met to
discuss the importance of establishing a regional regulation to address
the matter. During the meeting, Deputy Regent M. Fajar Aldila stated
that the Sumedang Regency Government is committed to preserving the
religious, moral, and cultural values that form the identity of the
Sumedang community. ‘We want to ensure that the younger generation of
Sumedang grows up in a healthy, safe environment based on religious
values and good morals. Prevention efforts must be carried out
comprehensively by involving families, schools, the community, religious
organisations, and all stakeholders,’ he said. The Sumedang Regency
Government will strengthen educational efforts and family guidance with
related regional agencies, including the Office of Population Control,
Family Planning, Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (DPPKBP3A), as
part of preventive measures. The administration is continuing to
implement thorough mitigation steps through strengthening character
education, family development, protection of women and children, and
collaboration with community and religious organisations. ‘Sumedang is
known as a religious region that upholds the values of togetherness and
brotherhood. Therefore, all efforts made are aimed at protecting the
community and the next generation so that they grow into individuals of
character, noble morals, and are able to bring pride to Sumedang,’ Fajar
said. One step already taken is the enforcement of a rule banning and
deactivating social media accounts for children under the age of 16.
‘This policy targets platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, and Roblox to
protect the younger generation from negative content, pornography,
cyberbullying, and online predators,’ he stated. Responding to the
proposal for a regional regulation on the prevention of deviant sexual
behaviour, Fajar stressed that any regional legal product must be
drafted with reference to the provisions of applicable laws and
regulations and through a comprehensive legal review. ‘The drafting of a
regional regulation must be in accordance with regional authority and
must not conflict with statutory regulations. Therefore, all proposals
will be reviewed first with the legal department and related parties,’
he asserted.
",
