Sumedang regency is expanding its Revolusi Pertanian (Revolper) programme, combining improved cultivation methods, quality seeds and stronger irrigation to raise rice yields and farmers’ incomes. Initial plot results reportedly show productivity gains approaching 100 per cent, while the regency’s 2025 rice production was 294,000 tonnes against annual consumption needs of about 103,000 tonnes.

Sumedang (ANTARA) – The Sumedang Regency Government in West Java is
developing its Agricultural Revolution Programme (Revolper) through the
use of cultivation technology, improved seeds and stronger irrigation,
with the aim of increasing rice productivity and improving farmers’
welfare.

Sumedang Regent Dony Ahmad Munir said in a statement in Sumedang on
Sunday that the collaboration was being pursued through a series of
major harvests of IF 20 and Inpari 32 rice varieties at the Gemah Ripah
Farmers’ Group in Tanjungkerta.

“Collaboration is key to producing agricultural programmes that bring
tangible benefits to farmers. Farmers’ incomes will rise and,
ultimately, they will become more prosperous,” he said.

The Gemah Ripah group has developed a 10-hectare rice demonstration
plot in partnership with the National Research and Innovation Agency
(BRIN), Padjadjaran University (Unpad), Winaya Mukti University (Unwim)
and the Balitbang Ketahanan Mandiri research body to test agricultural
technologies.

The programme introduces innovations ranging from cultivation
techniques and precision fertilisation to integrated pest management,
aiming to increase production while reducing farming operating
costs.

According to the first crop-cutting results analysed by the
statistics team and the Revolper team, rice productivity on the
demonstration plot has risen by what was described as nearly 100 per
cent, although the harvest yield in tonnes per hectare was not
specified.

“The Sumedang regional government’s current framework is that we must
involve the pentahelix in our work. The government, communities,
academics and businesses must work together to make this programme a
success,” he said.

He explained that Revolper rests on four main components: water
availability and reliable irrigation; the use of high-quality seeds;
effective and efficient balanced fertilisation; and the use of
agricultural machinery to modernise production through to post-harvest
processing.

At the event, the regency government also provided agricultural
machinery, support for maintaining farm-level irrigation networks, and
assistance for the construction of check dams.

Data from the Sumedang Regency Agriculture and Food Security Office
show that the regency produced 294,000 tonnes of rice in 2025, while
local consumption needs were about 103,000 tonnes a year.

The Inpari 32 variety has an average yield of about 6.30 tonnes per
hectare of milled dry grain, with a potential yield of 8.42 tonnes per
hectare. Revolper’s technologies are expected to further strengthen
productivity and regional food security.
",
