Mount Sumbing in Central Java has finally been cleared of the forest\nand land fires that had been burning for several days. The total area\nburnt reached 974 hectares.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank God, the fires in Wonosobo, Temanggung and Magelang have been\nextinguished,\u201d said Dimyati, administrator of the Kedu Utara Forest\nManagement Unit (KPH), on Saturday (24 October), as reported by\ndetikTravel.<\/p>\n
The fires in all three areas of Mount Sumbing have been reported\nextinguished. However, Perhutani, the base camp managers and volunteers\nwill continue to monitor the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, they have been extinguished as of today. We are continuing to\nmonitor and search the area,\u201d Dimyati said.<\/p>\n
The 974 hectares burnt on Mount Sumbing lie within the administrative\nboundaries of three regencies: Wonosobo, Temanggung and Magelang.<\/p>\n
Mount Sumbing is located across these three regencies. Earlier,\nflames were still visible in the Temanggung area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was one hotspot in Glapansari, Temanggung. It is nearing\nsafety, because the fires in Wonosobo and Magelang had already been\nextinguished yesterday,\u201d said Bergas Catursasi Penanggungan, acting head\nof the Central Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), on\nSaturday.<\/p>\n
The information came from monitoring at around 10 am that day. An\nattempt to extinguish the fire by helicopter water-bombing was cancelled\nbecause of poor weather.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe helicopter was about to carry out water-bombing and flew over\nMount Sumbing, but the weather was poor, so it turned back,\u201d Bergas\nsaid.<\/p>\n
In Temanggung, the total area on Mount Sumbing affected by the fire\nwas 344 hectares. In Wonosobo, the affected area was 362 hectares.<\/p>\n
Separately, Yulianto, assistant head of the Magelang Forest\nManagement Unit, also confirmed that the wildfire in the Magelang\nadministrative area of Mount Sumbing had been completely\nextinguished.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank God, by the grace of Allah SWT, the fire on Mount Sumbing in\nMagelang Regency has been extinguished. It went out yesterday (Friday)\nat around 2 pm,\u201d Yulianto said.<\/p>\n
In Magelang Regency, the wildfire affected 213.4 hectares,\nspecifically in Kajoran and Kaliangkrik districts.<\/p>\n
