Sumberkima soon to be famous<\/p>\n
BULELENG, North Bali (JP): With not much natural resources,
\nSumberkima village is only but a poor village in the western part
\nof Buleleng regency. However, if everything goes according to
\nplans, its fate might take a turn for the better.<\/p>\n
The planned construction of Lt.Col. Wisnu airfield is bringing
\nfresh hope to the poor villagers.<\/p>\n
Buleleng Regent Ketut Wirata Sindhu hopes the construction of
\nthe airfield will create employment for the local people. \"I hope
\nsome day, one of children here would become a pilot,\" the regent
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The construction of the airfield is also expected to usher in
\nthe construction of hotels and other real estate development,
\nthereby boosting the economic activities of the villagers who are
\nmostly fishermen and farmers.<\/p>\n
Due to their poverty, some of the villagers have resorted to
\nillegal means to earn money such as using cyanide to capture
\nornamental fish or selling protected coral reefs. Some villagers
\nhave moved to other cities to make a living.<\/p>\n
With their poor educational background -- only about 70
\npercent of them have elementary and junior high school education
\n-- the villagers have very few job options.<\/p>\n
The villagers who comprise local Balinese Hindus and Muslims
\nfrom Java, Madura and Sulawesi nevertheless live in peace.<\/p>\n
With its infertile and dry fields, Sumberkima has lagged
\nbehind other villages such as Pemuteran and Sumber Klampok, which
\nare now seen as potential tourist resorts. Hopefully a new
