Sleman (ANTARA) - The Sumberharjo Village-Owned Enterprise (Bumkal)\nin Prambanan District, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta\n(DIY), has successfully developed premium melon cultivation on local\nvillage-owned land. The premium melon cultivation, managed by the Sumber\nTumuwuh Farmers Group under Bumkal Sumberharjo, held its first harvest\non Sunday, attended by the Regent of Sleman, Harda Kisway andwa.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis premium melon cultivation utilises village-owned land through a\nprogramme supported by funding from the DIY Special Region Fund,\u201d said\nthe Director of Bumkal Sumberharjo, Choirun Sutrisno. He noted that the\nland was previously unproductive but has been optimised into a premium\nmelon cultivation area using greenhouse technology as an effort to\nincrease agricultural productivity and drive community economic growth.\nThe varieties planted include Kaori and Dalmatian melons.<\/p>\n
He added that, in addition to supporting food security, the premium\nmelon cultivation also has the potential to be developed as an\nagro-tourism destination. During this inaugural harvest, the group\nmanaged to produce over 50 kilograms of melons.<\/p>\n
The Regent of Sleman, Harda Kiswaya, expressed his appreciation for\nBumkal Sumberharjo\u2019s innovation in optimising the use of village land\nfor productive and economically valuable activities. \u201cI appreciate and\nam proud of this. Bumkal must work as effectively as possible in\naccordance with existing programmes, so that it truly provides benefits,\nincluding helping to increase village finances,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He stated that the agricultural sector remains one of the primary\npotentials for driving the village economy. With a land area of\napproximately 2.5 hectares, the development of modern horticulture is\nconsidered to have significant opportunities for further expansion\nthrough creativity, innovation, and sustainable management. \u201cThis is\nvery potential; the village can drive the economic engine through\nagriculture, and it is hoped that the next harvest will be even better,\u201d\nhe added.<\/p>\n
Harda hopes that the development of this agricultural area will\ncontinue to be strengthened through collaboration with the Sleman\nRegency Department of Agriculture, Food, and Fisheries, particularly in\nthe provision of seeds for various agricultural commodities. He noted\nthat such synergy will further optimise land use, increase agricultural\nproductivity, and expand economic benefits for the community.
