        "content": "<p>A Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) has been found dead\nin an oil palm plantation in Kampung Kaloy, Tamiang Hulu District, Aceh\nTamiang Regency.<\/p>\n<p>Teuku Irmansyah, Head of Conservation Section I at the Aceh Natural\nResources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), said his office had received\ninformation about the dead elephant in the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter receiving the information, officers from the Langsa Regional\nConservation Resort went directly to the location on Sunday (9\/8)\nafternoon. However, there has been no latest report from officers in the\nfield so far,\u201d said Teuku Irmansyah.<\/p>\n<p>The elephant was reported dead in the Afdeling B Block 34 oil palm\nplantation area, Kampung Kaloy, Tamiang Hulu District, Aceh Tamiang\nRegency, on Sunday (9\/8).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cause of death of the elephant is not yet known. We are\ncurrently accompanying the police team to the location. The road to the\nlocation of the dead elephant is in poor condition,\u201d said Andi.<\/p>\n<p>The Sumatran elephant is a protected wild animal. According to the\nIUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the Sumatran elephant, found only\non the island of Sumatra, is classified as critically endangered, at\nhigh risk of extinction in the wild.<\/p>\n<p>The public is urged to work together to preserve nature, particularly\nthe Sumatran elephant, by not destroying forests that serve as habitats\nfor various species, and by not capturing, injuring or killing them.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, people are urged not to store, possess, keep, transport\nor trade protected animals, whether alive or dead, and not to set traps\nor poisons that could cause death.<\/p>\n<p>All negative acts against protected wildlife are subject to criminal\nsanctions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.<\/p>",
