        "content": "<p>Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral\nResources (ESDM) targets the integration of the natural gas transmission\npipeline network connecting Sumatra and Java to be completed by 2028.\nThis is to ensure reliability of energy supply on the two islands, which\nhost the largest gas demand in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Laode Sulaeman, Director General of Oil and Gas (Dirjen Migas) at the\nMinistry of ESDM, said the government is accelerating the development of\nnational gas infrastructure to support domestic energy resilience. He\nnoted that linking pipelines from Aceh to East Java would provide\nflexibility for the government in distributing gas from various\noil-and-gas fields.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018By 2028. Sumatra and Java will be connected. Actually what hasn't\nbeen connected yet is only the Dumai\u2013Sei Mangkei segment. The crossing\nof the Sunda Strait already has it; the pipeline is already there,\u2019\nLaode said in the Podcast Bukan Abulake of the Ministry of ESDM, quoted\nTuesday (19\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>The government is currently focusing on completing the Dumai\u2013Sei\nMangkei (DUSEM) pipeline segment, which is projected to be finished next\nyear. This infrastructure is considered crucial to transporting gas from\nthe Andaman Block in northern Sumatra to southern Sumatra and eventually\nconnected to the pipeline network in Java.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Hopefully\u2014Dumai, alhamdulillah, we are starting now and, God\nwilling, we will complete it next year. The plan is that the Andaman\nBlock can start in 2028. So we already have the pipeline ready to\nreceive,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n<p>This also recognises that the majority of domestic natural gas\nproduction is now allocated to domestic industry. With the Dumai\u2013Sei\nMangkei\u2013Aceh to East Java connection, energy distribution can be more\nevenly and efficiently supplied to the industrial sector, power plants,\nand downstream applications.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018If both of these are in place, then gas transmission from Aceh to\nEast Java will exist, so gas can be injected wherever on these two\nislands as we utilise it,\u2019 he explained.<\/p>\n<p>This connectivity is also expected to underpin the acceleration of\ndomestic household gas network construction (jargas) as part of\ngovernment efforts to curb LPG consumption. Through an integrated\ntransmission pipeline system, the government is optimistic that the\ntarget of adding one million new household connections in the next two\nyears can be realised soon.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The demand for gas is highest on Java and Sumatra, meaning the\ninfrastructure must be strong on both islands. Therefore, a few years\nago we already mapped how Aceh and East Java could be connected,\u2019 he\nsaid.<\/p>",
