        "content": "<p>Palu (ANTARA) - Commission III of the Central Sulawesi Provincial\nDPRD recommends the cancellation of all mining business permits (IUP)\nand the implementation of a moratorium on limestone mining in Banggai\nKepulauan Regency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recommend to the Governor of Central Sulawesi to cancel all IUPs\nand impose a moratorium on limestone mining in Banggai Kepulauan,\u201d said\nthe Chairman of Commission III of the Central Sulawesi DPRD, Dandy Adhi\nPrabowo, in Palu on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, 23 IUPs have been issued in the Banggai Kepulauan region,\nconsisting of five IUPs for operational production and 18 IUPs for the\nexploration stage.<\/p>\n<p>Commission III assesses that the existence of these permits has the\npotential to cause serious damage to the karst ecosystem, including\nforests, lakes, caves, and habitats of protected endemic species.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, he said, limestone mining activities also contradict the\nBanggai Kepulauan Regency Regulation Number 16 of 2019 on the Protection\nand Management of the Karst Ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>The protection of karst areas is further strengthened by the Regent\u2019s\nDecree of Banggai Kepulauan Number 224 of 2022 on the Designation of\nHigh-Value Areas for the Conservation of Karst Ecosystem Biodiversity,\nwhich is equipped with maps and coordinate points of the conservation\nareas.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the results of discussions in Commission III of the Central\nSulawesi DPRD, it has recommended to the Governor of Central Sulawesi to\ncancel all IUPs that are proven to contradict legal provisions.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Central Sulawesi DPRD also requests the provincial\ngovernment to impose a moratorium on all mining activities in the\nBanggai Kepulauan region.<\/p>\n<p>This step is important to prevent further environmental damage and to\nensure the sustainability of the karst ecosystem, which has vital\nfunctions for community life.<\/p>",
