The management of the Sultan Hotel has called for a resolution to the ongoing dispute through dialogue, emphasizing its commitment to upholding legal and administrative standards. The company also clarifies that the dispute concerns land ownership, not the hotel building or its business operations.

Jakarta, VIVA - Ponco Sutowo, owner of PT Indobuildco, has questioned
why the Sultan Hotel is facing issues despite its adherence to legal and
administrative regulations in its business operations. Ponco made the
statement during a political podcast with Akbar Faisal.

“I am much more compliant in terms of legal and administrative
matters,” Ponco said, quoted on Friday, May 15, 2026.

According to him, the hotel’s operations have generated significant
revenue. He stated that the hotel’s business activities not only impact
the company but also contribute to state revenue, employment, tenants,
and other parties dependent on the hotel’s operations.

Ponco believes that resolving the dispute should be done through
dialogue and negotiation. He affirmed that PT Indobuildco remains open
to discussions to find a solution that is considered fair to all
parties.

“Let’s sit down. The problem can only be resolved through
negotiation. There is no other way,” he said.

Ponco added that entrepreneurs are not only focused on profit but
also have a responsibility towards national development. He believes
that legal certainty is an important factor for the sustainability of
investment and business in Indonesia.

“Entrepreneurs are not just looking for profit. We have a
responsibility towards the development of the country,” Ponco said.

Meanwhile, Hamdan Zoelva, legal counsel for PT Indobuildco,
emphasized that the object of the Sultan Hotel dispute is the land, not
the building or the hotel business.

Hamdan stated that the Sultan Hotel building was built independently
by PT Indobuildco and not using a Build, Operate, Transfer (BOT)
scheme.

“The dispute is about the land, not the building. This building was
built independently by PT Indobuildco, not with state funds and not
under a BOT scheme,” he said.

Hamdan reminded that in the 2011 court ruling, the parties were
encouraged to pursue a negotiation path to avoid harming investors.

“In the 2011 court ruling, one of the considerations was to ask the
parties to negotiate. Why? To prevent investors from suffering losses,”
he said.

PT Indobuildco affirmed that it is not opposing and remains open to
dialogue to find a resolution that is considered fair, complies with the
law, protects investment, and does not harm workers, tenants, business
partners, or state revenue.

“The land dispute should not be used as a means to take over the
Sultan Hotel building and business. If the hotel’s operations are shut
down, the state, workers, tenants, and the business world will all
suffer,” he added.
",
