        "content": "<p>The Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Sri Sultan\nHamengkubuwono X, has highlighted the significant changes that have\noccurred in Gunungkidul Regency over the past decade. According to the\nSultan, the current condition of Gunungkidul is far different from 10\nyears ago, particularly in terms of improving regional connectivity.\nSultan HB X assessed that progress in development, especially in the\ninfrastructure sector, has had a major impact on easing access between\nregions. \u201cThe condition of Gunungkidul is already different from 10\nyears ago. There is growth. Infrastructure roads are perhaps currently\nadequate enough, even if they can still be considered minimal. But to\nreach Gunungkidul from the western, northern, eastern, and southern\nends, there is already ease of access,\u201d he stated on Thursday\n(9\/4\/2026). Nevertheless, Sultan HB X reminded that the main challenge\nnow is no longer just physical development, but rather the equitable\ndistribution of development outcomes so that they can be felt by the\nentire community. Economic growth, which has so far been centred in the\nsouthern coastal areas, needs to be encouraged to reach other\nunderdeveloped regions. Sultan HB X did not deny that the southern\ncoastal area remains the most dominant centre of economic growth in\nGunungkidul. \u201cThe southern coastal area indeed has much greater growth\ncompared to the surrounding areas that may not yet have investments,\u201d he\nexplained. \u201c(But) how can development be more equitable, not just the\ncoast, but also extending to others,\u201d Sultan HB X added. To promote\nequitable distribution, the DIY Governor emphasised acceleration through\nthe Lumbung Mataram programme. This programme is expected to strengthen\nthe village community\u2019s economy through the agricultural and livestock\nsectors.
