Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Sri Sultan\nHamengku Buwono X (HB X), has established a special team in the wake of\na murder case near SMAN 3 Jogja. The team is tasked with identifying the\nroot causes of street violence that has resurfaced in Jogja.<\/p>\n
\u2018Well, at the moment, we are conducting identification, because for\nmonths there had been no klitih. Why has it happened again? We don\u2019t\nknow exactly\u2014whether it\u2019s the economic conditions or just ordinary\nmischief, we don\u2019t know. We are trying to identify it,\u2019 Sultan said when\nmet at the Kepatihan Complex in Jogja City, on Thursday (21\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
Sultan said he wants to understand more deeply why street violence\nlike the incident near SMAN 3 Jogja has reoccurred. Such cases were said\nto have disappeared for a while.<\/p>\n
\u2018What we did previously was to have residents guard to help maintain\nsecurity in their communities. But now it has appeared again; what is\nthe motive, we need to know that, to delve into it first, but there\nisn\u2019t a report from the team yet,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
Sultan admitted he could not comment further on this case yet.\nHowever, he will decide steps once the identification results are\nknown.<\/p>\n
\u2018We have formed a team; the team is working to identify, but it is\nnot that simple. Not just with the police, but also with the\nenvironment, the community, and what may be happening, what exactly is\ngoing on,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
\u2018Is it ordinary mischief, or are the seniors the ones who mentor it?\nWe don\u2019t know all of that; we must not get it wrong,\u2019 Sultan\nconcluded.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the murder occurred near SMAN 3 Jogja or around Kridosono\nStadium, Jogja City. In the incident, one person died after being\nassaulted with a sharp weapon by the perpetrators.<\/p>\n
The victim was a youth with initials AA (18). The incident occurred\non Sunday (17\/5) early in the morning. The victim is suspected to have\ndied from being beaten following taunts between gangs.<\/p>\n
In this case, three people were arrested and three others on the run.\nThe three who were detained were arrested at a safe house in\nCilacap.<\/p>\n
The Jogja City Police Chief, Kombes Eva Guna Pandia, stressed that\nthe incident was not klitih.<\/p>\n
\u2018We reiterate that this was not klitih or street crime,\u2019 Pandia told\nreporters at Mapolresta Jogja, on Monday (18\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u2018So it wasn\u2019t klitih. It started with taunts between two gangs.\nTaunts between two gangs led to the incident in the early hours where\nsomeone died,\u2019 she asserted.<\/p>\n
Case of the Death of a Bantul Student Up to Gladiator Duel<\/p>\n
Prior to this case, there were two other cases related to gangs in\nDIY that drew attention. First, the death of a student in Bantul and\ngladiator duel as a condition for leaving a gang.<\/p>\n
Ilham Dwi Saputra (16) from Pandak, Bantul, was eventually\nidentified. Seven perpetrators turned out to have murdered Ilham due to\ngang revenge motives.<\/p>\n
It was learned that Ilham was assaulted on Tuesday (14\/4) night.\nIlham had to undergo intensive care due to injuries, and was pronounced\ndead five days later.<\/p>\n
Police then arrested eight people in stages. The seven suspects were\nBLP (18) from Kretek, Bantul; YP (21) from Bambanglipuro, Bantul; JMA\n(23) from Pakualaman, Jogja; and RAR (19) from Bantul. Then AS (21) from\nPiyungan, Bantul; ASJ (19) from Kasihan, Bantul; AIF from Bambanglipuro;\nand SGJ (19) from Mantrijeron, Jogja.<\/p>\n
Ilham was brutally tortured to vent revenge due to gang clashes. The\nvictim was taunted via social media until finally killed.<\/p>\n
\u2018The motive was revenge. So there indeed were previous disputes,\u2019\nBantul Police Chief AKBP Bayu Puji Hariyanto told reporters at Bantul\nPolice, on Tuesday (28\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u2018JMA also stabbed the victim 14 times using scissors prepared from\nhome,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
Earlier, residents were alarmed by two youths who suffered stab\nwounds. The two were forced into gladiator duels as a condition for\nleaving the gang.<\/p>\n
A bloody duel between two groups of students occurred in Pakualaman,\nJogja City, on Wednesday (25\/3) early morning. As a result, two people\nsustained stab wounds.<\/p>\n
Public Relations Officer of Polresta Jogja, IPDA Anton Budi Susilo,\nsaid the case came to light after two victims AP (18) and RA (17) were\ntaken to Pratama Hospital with stab wounds on Wednesday (25\/3).<\/p>\n
From there, information emerged that they were victims of gladiator\nacts or duels between groups. Gladiator acts are a condition for leaving\na gang.<\/p>\n
\u2018According to AP\u2019s statement, RA and MR (a witness) who were\nsuspected of being in the Vascal gang and the two people wanted to leave\nthe gang, but Vascal members do not allow leaving the gang until a fixed\nor gladiator act (duel) occurs,\u2019 Anton explained when contacted on\nThursday (26\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
As a result of the clashes, AP and RA sustained serious injuries. AP\nsustained stab wounds to the left shoulder, both arms, and the right\nthumb, and was treated at Wirosaban Hospital.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, RA sustained stab wounds to the left side of the chest\nthat pierced the lung and was treated at Pratama Hospital.
