        "content": "<p>Sukarno&apos;s teaching<br>\nstill relevant<\/p>\n<p>From Rakyat Merdeka<\/p>\n<p>I respond to the polemic as to whether or not Marhaenism --    <br>\nthe Indonesian National Party (PNI) ideology to eliminate poverty <br>\ndeveloped and adopted by the late first president Bung Karno -- <br>\nis still relevant in solving Indonesia&apos;s current problems.<\/p>\n<p>The chief of the Regional Representatives Council of the PNI <br>\nFront for Marhaenist Reform, Harsono, and secretary-general Siti <br>\nKhadijah felt it necessary to let the public know about a <br>\nresolution incorporated in the decree No 06\/SK\/DPP\/PNI-<br>\nFM\/R\/VII\/2001 which states:<\/p>\n<p>1. To revoke all resolutions reached in the 11th and 12th PNI <br>\ncongresses held in 1966 and 1970 in Semarang with regard to the <br>\nannulment of Bung Karno as the Father of Marhaenism.<\/p>\n<p>2. Decides to reinstate Bung Karno as the Father of Marhaenism <br>\nwhich will be made lawful in the coming congress. This decision <br>\nhas been made as Marhaenism is deemed suitable and relevant to <br>\novercome the multidimensional crises currently faced by <br>\nIndonesia, making its adoption as a way of life obligatory.<\/p>\n<p>The establishment of various social institutions and <br>\nfoundations such as a social security net, the National Movement <br>\nof Foster Parents and others to help the poor is part of the <br>\nteaching enhanced by Bung Karno. Therefore, like the 1945 <br>\nConstitution, his teaching of Marhaenism is still relevant.<\/p>\n<p>ABDURAHMAN<\/p>\n<p>Palembang, South Sumatra<\/p>",
