Sugiono gets promotion in major reshuffle<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Armed Forces (ABRI) announced a massive
\nreshuffle on Monday, with Deputy Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen.
\nSugiono being promoted to the post of ABRI Chief of General
\nAffairs, replacing Lt. Gen. Fachrul Razi.<\/p>\n
Fachrul becomes secretary-general to the Ministry of Defense
\nand Security, replacing Lt. Gen. (ret) Soeyono, who has reached
\nthe mandatory age of retirement, according to ABRI spokesman Maj.
\nGen. Syamsul Ma'arif.<\/p>\n
Sugiono's post as Deputy Army Chief of Staff is now held by
\nCommander of Armed Forces Staff and Command School, Lt. Gen.
\nJohny Lumintang. The Assistant for General Planning to the Armed
\nForces Commander, Maj. Gen. Agus Wijaya, will fill the post left
\nvacant by Johny.<\/p>\n
Chief of the Army Staff and Command School, Maj. Gen. Agus
\nWirahadikusumah, now takes up Wijaya's former post.<\/p>\n
Syamsul told a press conference at the Armed Forces' Merdeka
\nBarat headquarters in Central Jakarta that the reshuffle affected
\n100 high-ranking officials in the Army, Navy, Air Force and
\nNational Police.<\/p>\n
Syamsul dismissed speculation that the reshuffle was a move to
\nrid ABRI of \"Muslim elements\" and said it was a regular change in
\ntours of duty.<\/p>\n
\"It's just a regular change in tours of duty within ABRI,\"
\nSyamsul said.<\/p>\n
The reshuffle also included the replacement of the Chief of
\nthe Intelligence Agency (BIA) Maj. Gen. Zacky Anwar Makarim by
\nMaj. Gen. Tyasno Sudarto, the outgoing Chief of the Central Java
\nMilitary Command. Tyasno will be replaced by his deputy, Brig.
\nGen. Bibit Waluyo, while Zacky will become a senior officer at
\nthe Armed Forces headquarters.<\/p>\n
Also promoted were Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad)
\nChief of Staff Maj. Gen. Ryamizard Ryacudu, who will become the
\nnew East Java Military Commander, replacing Maj. Gen. Djoko
\nSubroto. Djoko will become the Army's Inspector-general,
\nreplacing Maj. Gen. Nurdin Yusuf, who becomes a senior officer at
\nthe Army headquarters.<\/p>\n
Maj. Gen. Sang Nyoman Suwisma, who was the chief of the
\nTanjung Pura Military Command overseeing the four provinces of
\nKalimantan, has been given the post left vacant by Ryamizard.
\nSuwisma will be replaced by his deputy, Brig. Gen. Zainura M.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Abdul Rachman Gaffar, a senior officer
\nat the Army headquarters, was promoted to lead the Bukit Barisan
\nMilitary Command which oversees Aceh, Riau, North and West
\nSumatra. He replaced Maj. Gen. Ismed Yuzairi, who will become the
\nnew Chief of the Army's Center for Territorial Affairs. (imn)<\/p>",
