This nation is undergoing a hard exam. The latest proof is
\nthat the leaders have been challenging each other. The President
\nhas challenged the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) to hold a
\nspecial session. This challenge was answered by the MPR Speaker
\nand the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) by asking
\nPresident Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) to resign from the
\npresidency. The President answered \"what if I don't want to
\nresign\".<\/p>\n
I suggest that students not be busy with the plaything given
\nby Gur Dur, i.e. chasing Soeharto and his cronies. Don't think
\nthat if Soeharto is tried, everything will be all right, whereas
\nthe actual source of the disease has shifted towards Gus Dur,
\nAmien and Akbar. Their disputes have given rise to more serious
\ndamage to this country rather than did Soeharto, which will be
\nresolved in the course of time.<\/p>\n
Dear students, please think of saving the nation and state in
\norder not to be made tools of the political elite. The student
\nleaders of all universities and higher learning institutes must
\nnot be hostile to each other. Hold a meeting to elect a president
\nof student representatives. You could, for example, offer the
\nresult to MPR and DPR. The students' choice would certainly be
\nbacked by the people provided it was objective and rational. My
\nsuggestion is don't choose someone from a political party, people
\nwho like to discredit one another. Choose one from academic
\ncircles or any other source who is not clumsy as a leader.<\/p>\n
