Sugar smuggling continues in N. Sumatra<\/p>\n
MEDAN, North Sumatra: Despite continuing raids, sugar
\ncontinues to be smuggled into North Sumatra from neighboring
\ncountries.<\/p>\n
Smugglers and buyers are believed to be making their deals
\nseveral miles out from the Tanjung Nibung Port in Tanjung Balai,
\nAsahan regency, to avoid raids by security authorities and
\ncustoms officers.<\/p>\n
Local brokers and fishermen say they have reported the
\nsmuggling to security authorities but no action has been taken.<\/p>\n
\"The smuggled sugar is brought in aboard canoes at night to
\navoid officers,\" said a local broker who declined to be
\nidentified.<\/p>\n
The price of local sugar has dropped slightly because of the
\ninflow of sugar brought in illegally from Malaysia and Thailand.

AMBON, Maluku: Acting Maluku Governor Sinyo Sarundajang has
\nordered the distribution of construction materials to allow
\nvictims of the ethnic conflict there to rebuild their homes.<\/p>\n
Syarif Hadler, deputy mayor of Ambon municipality, said in the
\nMaluku capital on Wednesday the order followed a report that some
\nformer refugees were anxious lest they be denied their Rp 10
\nmillion in construction material because of a lack of land
\nownership documents.<\/p>\n
Two former warring communities in Nania village, Baguala
\ndistrict, Ambon municipality, for instance, have reconciled and
\nwish to live peacefully, but most of the community members do not
\nhave ownership certificates for the land where they want to build
\nhouses.<\/p>\n
\"The deputy governor has ordered the social affairs office in
\nAmbon to announce this policy to avoid any unrest among refugees
\nwho are going back to their home villages,\" he said<\/p>\n
Quoting Sarundajang, Hadler said that despite a lack of land
\ncertificates, the refugees would be given the opportunity to find
\nplots of land, and the local administration would arrange their
\nsettlement in an effort to resolve the refuge problem by the end

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: A chemical and drug company from
\nthe Netherlands will assist the Bontang city administration in
\nregreening 27 hectares of critical land in the province.<\/p>\n
Dutch Staro Mine Kaltim Milamine president Mike Kwiatkoeski
\nsaid after a meeting with the deputy governor here on Wednesday
\nthat his company would assist in the regreening program in two
\nseparate abandoned areas in Bontang.<\/p>\n
Twenty hectares is located on land belonging to state
\nfertilizer company PT Pupuk Kaltim, and the remaining seven
\nhectares is in Sekambing village, Bontang.<\/p>\n
The Sekambing land will be turned into a city forest as part
\nof Bontang's plan to turn the area into an urban development
\nzone.<\/p>\n
The regreening program will be launched in Bontang on Aug. 11
\nin the presence of Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia R.J. Trefferf
