Both Sudomo, chief of the Supreme Advisory Council, and
\nSumarlin, chief of the Supreme Audit Agency, have given
\ninformation as witnesses to the Attorney General's Office in
\nrelation to the Bapindo credit fiasco. But Sudomo and Sumarlin
\nbehaved differently after the interrogation: Sudomo evaded
\nreporters, while Sumarlin gave a press conference accompanied by
\nthe attorney general.<\/p>\n
Sumarlin, right from the beginning, said that he was ready to
\ngive information concerning the Bapindo case and to appear as a
\nwitness in court if asked to that.<\/p>\n
Of course Sudomo has the right to avoid the press. But in this
\nera of openness this evasive attitude will force reporters to get
\ninformation from other sources, which of course carries the risk
\nof distortion. On the other hand, the press is supposed to
\npresent objective information to society.<\/p>\n
So do not blame the press for incomplete information and
\ndistortion of facts, which results from the closed attitude of a
\nfirst-hand source.<\/p>\n
