Badung\u2019s Agriculture and Food Service (Disperpa) has responded to\nreports of sudden pig mortality belonging to residents in Banjar Kayu\nTulang, Desa Canggu, Kuta Utara district. Although no official report\nhas been received, the relevant department said it will deploy a team to\ninvestigate the information on the ground.<\/p>\n
Head of Badung Disperpa Anak Agung Ngurah Raka Sukadana said the\ndepartment has not yet received an official report concerning suspected\ncases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the area. However, enquiries will\nproceed.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo date, we have not officially received a report concerning African\nSwine Fever or ASF in Banjar Kayu Tulang. However, we will investigate\nthe information regarding the incident and if proven true, the\nDepartment will promptly take action in accordance with the applicable\nregulations,\u201d said Anak Agung Ngurah Raka Sukadana, on Thursday (21 May\n2026).<\/p>\n
If field findings indicate transmission of a contagious disease, the\nregional government emphasises it will immediately take management\nsteps. One such step is sampling livestock tissues to determine the\ncause of death through laboratory examination.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf pig deaths are indeed found in Desa Canggu, the Department will\nimmediately coordinate with the Denpasar Balai Besar Veteriner. This is\nimportant to conduct sampling as a step to confirm the diagnosis through\nlaboratory examination,\u201d Sukadana added.<\/p>\n
Separately, Disperpa acknowledged that reports of sudden pig deaths\nhave also been received from several other areas in Badung. Officers\nhave been to the sites to provide initial handling.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegarding reports of sudden deaths in pigs in several areas, there\nare indeed such reports. We have followed up by providing outreach to\nfarmers and carrying out disinfection of pens to prevent further spread\nof disease,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
To date, there is no vaccine available to counter the African Swine\nFever virus. Farmers are therefore urged to tighten monitoring of the\nmovement of people and goods entering and leaving farm areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the effort to combat animal diseases, the department budgets\nannual procurement of medicines and disinfectants. To date, a vaccine\nfor ASF remains unavailable, so farmers are urged to implement strict\nbiosecurity by limiting the movement of people, goods, and other animals\ninto and out of the farming areas,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
In addition to tightening kennel monitoring, owners are urged to stop\nfeeding pigs with waste from the tourism industry. Such feeding patterns\nare considered to carry a high risk of virus transmission.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe practice of swill feeding or feeding from hotel or restaurant\nwaste for pigs is not recommended as stated in the Ministry of\nAgriculture Circular Letter No.\u00a08432\/SE\/PK.320\/F\/08\/2025. ASF\ntransmission can occur not only through such waste but also via people,\ngoods, vehicles, feed and other contaminated media,\u201d Sukadana\nconcluded.<\/p>\n
Earlier, around 60 pigs ready for harvest owned by residents of Desa\nCanggu, Kuta Utara district, Badung, Bali, were reported to have died\nsuddenly since April 2026, suspected to be infected with African Swine\nFever (ASF).
