Subway project to start next year<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Sutiyoso said on Wednesday the city
\nadministration would begin construction on the proposed
\nFatmawati-Kota subway next year.<\/p>\n
\"We hope the project, which has been postponed, can start next
\nyear,\" Sutiyoso said at City Hall.<\/p>\n
He said the city administration would ask whether the
\nIndonesia-Japan-Europe Group still was interested in financing
\nthe project.<\/p>\n
The consortium includes Japanese companies led by Itochu
\nCorp., European firms led by Ferrostaal AG of Germany and
\nIndonesian firms led by PT Citra Lamtorogung, PT Bukaka Teknik
\nUtama, PT Bakrie Investindo, PT Pembangunan Jaya, PT Lippo, PT
\nSuhamthabie and PT Steady Safe.<\/p>\n
The governor said an open tender would be held to select who
\nwould win the right to construct the 15-kilometer subway line.<\/p>\n
Sutiyoso said he would meet with President Abdurrahman Wahid
\nto discuss the financing of the project, most of which is
\nexpected to come from the Japanese government.<\/p>\n
\"I will meet the President. As we all know, President
\nAbdurrahman has just visited Japan,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The governor said the land for the project would be
\nappropriated fairly.<\/p>\n
\"The land will be appropriated according to the market price,\"
\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Noted economist Sri Mulyani of the University of Indonesia's
\nInstitute for the Development of Economy and Management, however,
\nsuggested the city administration postpone the project, saying it
\nwas not urgent for the city's development. (jun)<\/p>",
