Subiakto admits to land price mark-up<\/p>\n

JAKARTA: Former Ministry of Cooperatives' (KPDK) employees
\ncooperative head Subiakto Tjakrawerdaya has admitted he used
\nState Logistics Agency (Bulog) money to buy land in South Jakarta
\nfrom a son of former dictator Soeharto for an inflated Rp 10
\nbillion.<\/p>\n
\"Yes, I did buy it (the land),\" Subiakto, who wore a brown
\nsafari outfit, told reporters after being questioned by the
\npolice for about four hours on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Subiakto said he received the money in 1990 from Bustanil
\nArifin who chaired the Bulog agency at that time.<\/p>\n
Bustanil is now in police custody as the prime suspect in a
\ncorruption case involving Bulog funds which caused the state to
\nlose Rp 8 billion.<\/p>\n
He is accused of channeling the money to Subiakto to buy the
\n4,003-square-meter land plot on Jl. HR. Rasuna Said from Bambang
\nTrihatmodjo, former president Soeharto's second son.<\/p>\n
Police believe the Rp 10 billion paid for the land, with a
\nmarket value of only Rp 1.8 billion in 1990, was done so on
\npurpose.<\/p>\n
Police officials said Bustanil would be charged with
\nAnticorruption Law No.31\/1999, which carries a maximum penalty of
\n20 years in prison.<\/p>\n
Bustanil, however, confirmed that the money was disbursed on
\nthe grounds of a proposal made by Subiakto. \"Yes that's right as
\nfar as I can recall it,\" Bustanil told reporters.<\/p>\n
However, police, thus far, said they had yet to find
\nsufficient evidence to name Subiakto as a suspect.<\/p>\n
Still wearing blue batik clothing instead of a dark blue
\ndetention outfit, Bustanil was taken to the examination room for
\nfurther interrogation.<\/p>",
