Subdistrict' head faces dismissal<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Central Jakarta Mayor Andi Subur Abdullah said
\non Monday he would dismiss Erwanto, the head of Karanganyar
\nsubdistrict in Central Jakarta, if he was involved in the misuse
\nof social safety net funds amounting to Rp 764 million.<\/p>\n
\"Should the police investigation show Erwanto is involved in
\nthe deviation, I will fire him,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Andi said Erwanto, who is also the supervisor of the fund
\ndistribution, should have known about the misuse of the money.<\/p>\n
\"The investigation currently done by the police is expected to
\nbe completed on May 21,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Andi also said that Sutarmo, chairman of the local village
\nresilience board (LKMD) and coordinator of the fund distribution,
\nwould be asked to give an explanation of the distribution of the
\nfunds in a meeting at the town hall on May 21.<\/p>\n
The meeting is scheduled to be attended by all neighborhood
\ncommunity chairmen in the subdistrict and other representatives
\nof the fund distribution, Andi said.<\/p>\n
The Karanganyar subdistrict was allocated Rp 764 from the
\nNational Development Planning Board (Bappenas) for the 1998\/1999
\nfiscal year.<\/p>\n
However, a large percentage of the fund to be distributed by
\nSutarmo did not reach its intended targets: poor people, the
\nunemployed and small business operators.<\/p>\n
The large fund reportedly was swindled by officials in the
\nsubdistrict who falsified the signatures of the fund's supposed
\nrecipients.<\/p>\n
A Bappenas team uncovered the deviation during their visit to
\nthe subdistrict at the end of April to check on the distribution
\nof the money.<\/p>\n
On Friday, 18 residents of Karanganyar subdistrict lodged
\nofficial complaints with city police over case. (01)<\/p>",
