Subdistrict head election questioned<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): About 500 residents of Rawa Rengas village in
\nKosambi district staged a rally at the Tangerang regency office
\non Saturday to urge Tangerang regent Agus Djunara to investigate
\ndeviations in the process of electing the new chief of their
\nsubdistrict.<\/p>\n
The residents, whose transportation to the regency office was
\napparently financed by Uci Sanusi, one of the subdistrict head
\ncandidates who failed the pre-ballot screening, believed that the
\nelection process was overshadowed by rampant collusion,
\ncorruption and nepotism practices.<\/p>\n
Uci's elementary school diploma was declared fake by the
\nTangerang sociopolitical affairs office, which handled the
\nelection process.<\/p>\n
However, Uci strongly denied that his diploma was fictitious.
\n\"It was engineered in such a way so as to prevent me from being
\nelected,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Regency spokesman H.E. Kusnadi deplored the activities of the
\nsubdistrict head candidates who were disqualified from the
\nelection, particularly those who mobilized large numbers of
\npeople to protest.<\/p>\n
\"Whether the diploma is genuine or not will be checked by the
\nJakarta office of the Ministry of Education and Culture, which
\nissued the diploma,\" Kusnadi said.<\/p>\n
Rawa Rengas is one of the 119 subdistricts in Tangerang whose
\nhead's term of office has recently expired.<\/p>\n
While subdistrict heads used to only have to hold elementary
\nschool diplomas, they were now obliged to have at least junior
\nhigh school qualifications in line with the more complicated
\nproblems they now had to face, Kusnadi said. (41\/hhr)<\/p>",
