        "content": "<p>Subdistrict chief becomes cowboy<\/p>\n<p>PEKANBARU, Riau: Rengat subdistrict chief Purnomo was<br>\nnicknamed \"Cowboy\" after helping the people herd 1,200 cows to<br>\ngrounds safe from flooding last week.<\/p>\n<p>The bovine exodus was sparked when floods devoured vast areas<br>\nthroughout Riau after several deceptively sunny days. Earlier<br>\nlast week, floods inundated hundreds of houses and forced<br>\nthousands of people to seek refuge.<\/p>\n<p>\"Pak (Mr.) Purnomo was seen herding and dragging cows like the<br>\ncowboys we see on TV,\" Antara said quoting a resident.<\/p>\n<p>Purnomo said the latest floods came so suddenly that many<br>\npeople did not have time to safeguard their belongings. \"It was a<br>\nterrible disaster,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said 39 heads of cattle, four buffaloes, 352 goats and<br>\nseveral thousand chickens were swallowed by the floodwaters.<br>\n(pan)<\/p>",
