'Suara Pembaruan' lawsuit rejected<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta State Administrative High Court
\nyesterday rejected a lawsuit by Suara Pembaruan publisher, PT
\nMedia Interaksi Utama (PT MIU), against the Central Committee for
\nSettling Labor Disputes' (P4P) decision ordering the publisher to
\nreinstate seven journalists it suspended last year.<\/p>\n
The court endorsed the committee's decision that the company
\nmust back pay the journalists' salaries from Nov. 16 last year
\nwhen they were suspended.<\/p>\n
In yesterday's session, Presiding Judge Fatimah Achjar
\nrejected PT MIU's request that the realization of the committee's
\ndecision be postponed from April 24 to a later date pending the
\ncompletion of the court proceedings on the case.<\/p>\n
\"There are no strong legal reasons for us to postpone the
\nrealization of the decision,\" Fatimah said.<\/p>\n
This means the decision must be immediately carried out.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Suara Pembaruan Chief Editor Sutarno said the paper
\nwould appeal to the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
\"In rejecting the lawsuit the court has failed to provide
\nadequate and strong legal reasons,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The seven journalists -- Petron Curie, Kooswadi, Isaac Sinjal,
\nConstantinus De Gani, Djadjan Saputra, Charles Manurung and
\nNelson Simanjuntak -- were suspended in November last year for a
\nlack of discipline. The management of the evening daily even
\ntried to dismiss the newsmen, but the move was rejected by the
\nP4P, which on April 24 ordered the newspaper to reinstate the
\njournalists and to pay their back salaries in full. (bas\/sur)<\/p>",
