Try Hungary, envoy says<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The Hungarian ambassador has asked Indonesian parents who want<br>\ntheir children to study abroad to consider his country.<\/p>\n<p>Gyorgy Busztin told The Jakarta Post that Hungary had a number<br>\nof fine universities that used English as the medium of teaching,<br>\nat very competitive costs.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;For a refreshing change, please look beyond the horizon,&quot; the<br>\nambassador said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;To find an economic solution without compromising academic<br>\nvalues, please look at one of Europe&apos;s ambitious new democracies,<br>\nwith a very rich tradition of science: Hungary.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Every year, thousands of young Indonesians head abroad to<br>\nstudy, either paid for by their wealthy parents, or funded by<br>\norganizations, foundations, or learning institutions.<\/p>\n<p>English-speaking countries like the United States, Australia<br>\nand Britain rank among the most favorite destinations. Singapore,<br>\nMalaysia, and Japan are also popular. France and Germany are<br>\namong the non-English speaking countries many Indonesians go to.<\/p>\n<p>Studying abroad has become a big business that many countries,<br>\noften with the help of their respective embassies in Jakarta,<br>\norganize annual fairs to tout their advantages.<\/p>\n<p>Few, if any Indonesians, have considered Hungary or other<br>\nEastern European countries, as an option.<\/p>\n<p>Busztin said it was time that Hungary, which he described as<br>\none of the dynamically growing, market-economy based democracies,<br>\nbe looked at.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Located in the center of Europe, a melting pot of cultures,<br>\nHungary has traditionally been a crossroad and as such blended<br>\nmany traditions,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The major Hungarian universities all have full courses in<br>\nEnglish (medicine, dentistry, pharmacology, veterinary medicine,<br>\nengineering etc),&quot; he said, adding &quot;Some offer post graduate<br>\ncourses in English as well.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&apos;s decision not to join the euro zone makes the costs<br>\nof studying there relatively inexpensive for foreigners, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Annual tuition fees range from US$5,900 to $10,000; monthly<br>\nliving costs, including accommodation, food and transportation,<br>\nreach $600 a month.
