Students tried for consuming 'Putaw'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Two students of privately run Sahid University
\nwere indicted at South Jakarta Court yesterday for possessing and
\nconsuming putaw, a low grade heroin.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Zaiful Alim Said said the defendants, Rachmatulloh,
\n26, and Zamroni, 22, were charged under Article 23 of Law No.
\n9\/1979 on narcotics.<\/p>\n
Under the law, a person found guilty of illegally consuming
\nheroin could face a maximum three years in jail, while those
\nfound guilty of possession could face a maximum 10 years in jail,
\nsaid Zaiful.<\/p>\n
\"The amount of heroin is also considered,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said Rachmatulloh and Zamroni were arrested while inhaling
\nputaw in a room at Sofyan Hotel on Jl. Supomo in South Jakarta on
\nJune 12.<\/p>\n
During the raid, the police confiscated 0.88 grams of putaw
\nfrom the students, said the prosecutor.<\/p>\n
Rachmatulloh is a resident of Jl. Bima in Bekasi, while
\nZamroni lives on Jl. Menteng Atas Barat in Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The two students are being temporarily detained at Pondok
\nBambu penitentiary in East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Presiding judge Soedadi adjourned the trial until next week
\nwhen witnesses will testify. (jun)<\/p>",
