Students to start rural internship<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): One hundred forty students from three
\nprestigious state universities will descend on the tiny districts
\nof Jonggol and Cariu in Bogor today to start a rural internship
\nprogram, the University of Indonesia (UI) announced yesterday.<\/p>\n
The main theme of the program, known by the Indonesian
\nacronyms KKN, is to help prepare villagers for environmentally
\nfriendly development, the university said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Taking part are students from UI, the Bogor Institute of
\nAgriculture and the Bandung Institute of Technology.<\/p>\n
Minister of Transmigration Siswono Yudohusodo will attend the
\nsend-off ceremony at the University of Indonesia campus in Depok,
\nsouth of here. Rector M.K. Tadjuddin will head the ceremony and
\nwill present the students to Bogor Regent Eddy Yoso Martadipura.<\/p>\n
The 140 students are divided into two groups.<\/p>\n
The first, with 60 participants, comprises students from the
\nthree universities under a three-year integrated KKN program. The
\nother is made up entirely of UI students.<\/p>\n
Siswono will also inaugurate a green house and an herbal plant
\nresearch center, both of which are expected to support the
\nstudents' rural internship program. The two facilities will be
