Students take hostage academic staff<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: Hundreds of computer college students in Tangerang
\nagreed on Thursday morning to release 25 academic staff held
\nhostage for more than 10 hours following the suspension of two
\nstudent activists.<\/p>\n
Raharja Academy of Computer Information Management
\n(AMIK\/STMIK) staff, comprising the deputy directors, lecturers
\nand administrative staff members, were forced to spend the night
\nat the school after the students prevented them from leaving the
\ncampus in Cikokol.<\/p>\n
They were finally allowed to leave at 2:30 a.m. after the
\npolice negotiated their release.<\/p>\n
Students Executive Body (BEM) chairman Rendri said the
\nstudents had demanded that college director Untung Rahardja
\nrevoke his decision to suspend Jazuli Adnan and Achmad Sanjaya.<\/p>\n
The pair were suspended for one semester, starting Feb. 26,
\nfor losing the college flag during a rally outside the House of
\nRepresentatives in Jakarta on Feb. 8.<\/p>\n
\"No one is allowed to take the flag from the campus, but the
\nstudents lost the flag and never showed up when we repeatedly
\nsummoned them to explain their actions,\" Rahardja said.--JP<\/p>",
