The students tearing down the corridor are not late for class but
\neager to see where their artwork has been hung in the school's
\nannual display.<\/p>\n
When all had arrived, the budding artists whose works had been
\nselected as the most outstanding gave a floor talk to a group of
\naround 400 students and parents.<\/p>\n
Art and Craft Exhibition Day at the Singapore International
\nSchool in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, is held every year in
\nAugust to explore and develop the students' artistic expression.<\/p>\n
The parents of pre-school students are also invited to observe
\ntheir children's art and craft class.<\/p>\n
Nursery and kindergarten students worked on Friday under the
\nguidance of art teachers, on projects together with their parents
\n(see photo).<\/p>\n
\"This program helps my child to explore her creativity and
\ngives her the confidence to say what is on her mind in front of a
\ngroup of people,\" said Elizabeth, who was accompanying her three-
\nyear-old daughter Emily.<\/p>\n
Around fifty works of pre-school, primary, and secondary
\nschool students were displayed, yet a one-meter-high packet of
\ncigarettes made by a secondary school student was the most
\nattention-grabbing exhibit.<\/p>\n
The huge cardboard artwork was made to persuade people to stop
\nsmoking, said the female artist in her presentation.<\/p>\n
Some teachers also exhibited paintings on the theme of
\nIndonesia's independence.<\/p>\n
\"Besides our intention of making the children appreciate art,
\nthe program is also aimed at strengthening the bond between
\nparents and their children, giving them a treasured moment,\"
\nexplained Edwina, vice principle of the school's kindergarten.<\/p>",
