        "content": "<p>Students study fine arts<\/p>\n<p>Dyah Hapsari, The Jakarta Post\/Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Singapore International School<\/p>\n<p>The students tearing down the corridor are not late for class but<br>\neager to see where their artwork has been hung in the school's<br>\nannual display.<\/p>\n<p>When all had arrived, the budding artists whose works had been<br>\nselected as the most outstanding gave a floor talk to a group of<br>\naround 400 students and parents.<\/p>\n<p>Art and Craft Exhibition Day at the Singapore International<br>\nSchool in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, is held every year in<br>\nAugust to explore and develop the students' artistic expression.<\/p>\n<p>The parents of pre-school students are also invited to observe<br>\ntheir children's art and craft class.<\/p>\n<p>Nursery and kindergarten students worked on Friday under the<br>\nguidance of art teachers, on projects together with their parents<br>\n(see photo).<\/p>\n<p>\"This program helps my child to explore her creativity and<br>\ngives her the confidence to say what is on her mind in front of a<br>\ngroup of people,\" said Elizabeth, who was accompanying her three-<br>\nyear-old daughter Emily.<\/p>\n<p>Around fifty works of pre-school, primary, and secondary<br>\nschool students were displayed, yet a one-meter-high packet of<br>\ncigarettes made by a secondary school student was the most<br>\nattention-grabbing exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>The huge cardboard artwork was made to persuade people to stop<br>\nsmoking, said the female artist in her presentation.<\/p>\n<p>Some teachers also exhibited paintings on the theme of<br>\nIndonesia's independence.<\/p>\n<p>\"Besides our intention of making the children appreciate art,<br>\nthe program is also aimed at strengthening the bond between<br>\nparents and their children, giving them a treasured moment,\"<br>\nexplained Edwina, vice principle of the school's kindergarten.<\/p>",
