Students receive scholarships<\/p>\n
PADANG, West Sumatra: A total of 763 students of Andalas
\nUniversity received this year scholarships from various
\nfoundations and bodies, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
\"Most of them are high achievers who come from poor families,\"
\nsaid Alfian Saman of the university yesterday. The students had
\nto go through a tight selection procedure before they were
\nawarded the assistance.<\/p>\n
He said every recipient of the scholarships and other forms of
\nassistance will be required to make reports about how they use
\nthe money.<\/p>\n
Andalas University now has 14,000 students enrolled in its
\nnine schools. Some of the scholarship donor agencies are the
\nSupersemar Foundation, the Ministry of Education and Culture, the
\ncompanies Bimantara, Toyota Astra and Darma Kalbe. (swe)<\/p>",
