        "content": "<p>Students rally in support of MPR<\/p>\n<p>MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Some 100 Muslim activists rallied in<br>\nfront of the South Sulawesi provincial legislature on Wednesday<br>\nin show of support for the constitutional amendments being<br>\ndiscussed by the People&apos;s Consultative Assembly (MPR).<\/p>\n<p>The activists, who came from eight provincial chapters of the<br>\nMuhammadiyah Student Association, demanded the MPR endorse the<br>\namendments during its Annual Session, which begins on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>In a joint statement, the demonstrators accused those who<br>\nresisted the amendments as being opposed to reform, and would<br>\ntherefore have to answer to the students.<\/p>\n<p>They said the amendments should pave the way for a new<br>\nconstitution free from the vested interests of political groups.<\/p>\n<p>The students also called on the government to refrain from<br>\nrepressive measures in dealing with student rallies during the<br>\nAnnual Session.<\/p>\n<p>After reading the joint statement, the demonstrators dispersed<br>\npeacefully, declining an offer to speak with the provincial<br>\nlegislature employee in charge of receiving the public. -- JP<\/p>",
