The protesters condemned the incident as barbaric and illegal, called for the court to uphold civil society's lawsuit against the TNI Law, urged the formation of a fact-finding team, and demanded military reform to ensure troops return to barracks.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A group of students from several universities
held a demonstration behind the Constitutional Court (MK) building on
Jalan Abdul Muis, Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
Kompas.com observations at the location showed that the crowd began
arriving from 10.30 WIB. They came from the south side of Jalan Abdul
Muis and headed straight to the back of the MK building. In addition,
there were banners featuring an image of KontraS Deputy Coordinator
Andrie Yunus. After gathering behind the MK building, the crowd lined up
for more than six metres while unfurling banners. The arrival of the
student crowd temporarily disrupted traffic flow on Jalan Abdul Muis.
Four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles heading south (Tanah Abang,
Cideng) and north (Harmoni, Gajahmada) were congested. Transportation
sub-district officers and police were deployed to manage the traffic
buildup. “That action is barbaric and clearly violates the law,” stated
the orator. Secondly, they demand a fair resolution of the case through
the general judicial system, not military courts. “Thirdly, we support
the Constitutional Court in accepting and granting civil society’s
lawsuit at the MK regarding the TNI Law,” the orator revealed. Fourthly,
they urge the formation of a joint fact-finding team for the Andrie
Yunus case. Fifthly, they request the DPR to seriously oversee the legal
process of Andrie Yunus through general judicial regulations. Sixthly,
they demand military reform for professional soldiers; the military must
return to the barracks.
",
