Students perform Sundanese arts<\/p>\n
A four-day Sundanese arts festival kicked off in Bogor
\nmunicipality on Wednesday, with hundreds of students from 30
\nuniversities in West Java participating.<\/p>\n
The festival, which was officially opened by assistant to the
\nOffice of the State Minister for Culture and Tourism for its arts
\nand film program Aswari Afandi, will feature various Sundanese
\nart forms.<\/p>\n
Following the opening on Wednesday, hundreds of students and
\nother participants (see picture) paraded from Bogor City Hall on
\nJl. Juanda to the Padjadjaran sports complex on Jl. Pemuda.<\/p>\n
Organizing committee chairman Bambang Soemantri said the
\nfestival was aimed at reviving dozens of Sundanese art forms that
\nwere no longer popular among the nation's youth.<\/p>\n
The Sundanese are an ethnic group from West Java.<\/p>\n
\"The festival is also aimed at inspiring young people to take
\npart, so that Sundanese art forms continue to be practiced,\" he
\nadded.<\/p>\n
The festival will include cultural presentations such as
\nangklung gubrak (traditional bamboo instrument music), Cimande
\nmartial arts, bedug (drum performance), pantun beton,
\nblantek\/lenong, and goong sibolong.<\/p>\n
Bambang said the event was the third of its kind. The first
\nand second festivals were held in the West Java capital of
