Students mark Semanggi incident<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): About 250 proreform students and activists
\ncommemorated the one-month anniversary of the Nov. 13 Semanggi
\nincident on Monday afternoon by demanding the government not let
\nits investigation lapse.<\/p>\n
They held a discussion on human rights violations at Atma Jaya
\nUniversity and the Gita Swara Jaya choir performed several solemn
\nsongs, including Ismail Marzuki's Gugur Bunga (Fallen Flowers),
\nGuruh Soekarnoputra's Melati Suci (Sacred Jasmine), Allen Pote's
\nPrayer of St. Francis and Rodgers and Hammerstein's You'll Never
\nWalk Alone.<\/p>\n
The Black Friday incident at the Semanggi cloverleaf, in front
\nof the Atma Jaya campus, claimed the lives of 10 people,
\nincluding eight students, when troops fired on the sea of
\ndemonstrators.<\/p>\n
Organizers of Monday's commemoration called for the government
\nto immediately clarify the circumstances of the shooting and
\nthose responsible.<\/p>\n
\"We feel that the government has attempted to close the
\nSemanggi incident. It thinks that by keeping its mouth shut tight
\nand doing nothing to probe the case, people will forget,\" student
\nPahala of Atma Jaya University said.<\/p>\n
Noted activists in attendance, such as Hendardi and Karlina
\nLeksono, echoed the need for quick closure to the case.<\/p>\n
\"The government has already taken too much time to reveal the
