Students lose suit and hope<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Jakarta State Administrative Court yesterday
\nordered five university students to pay court fees totaling Rp
\n34,000 after their complaint of discrimination against the
\nAttorney General's Office was dismissed.<\/p>\n
In January, the five law students from Muhammadiyah University
\nin Surakarta had filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General's
\nOffice, indicting the institution for being discriminatory in its
\nrecruitment policy.<\/p>\n
The policy dictated that only state university graduates were
\ninvited to apply to the General Attorney's office for prosecutor
\npositions.<\/p>\n
A team of judges led by Tengku Abdurrahman Husny said in their
\nverdict read on Monday that the five students, representing the
\nstudent body, were not fully qualified to question the policy
\nbecause they are not university graduates who might have been
\ndisadvantaged by the so called discriminative recruitment policy.<\/p>\n
Last year there was a controversy over qualifications for
\njudges and prosecutors. Reports said only those of a certain
\nheight would be considered. (14)<\/p>",
