        "content": "<p>Students, lecturers protest election<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Bogor<\/p>\n<p>Students and lecturers from the Bogor Institute of Agriculture<br>\n(IPB) protested the rectorial election process, saying it lacked<br>\ntransparency and fairness.<\/p>\n<p>President of the Students' Executive Board (BEM), Atang<br>\nTrisnanto, said Saturday that the problem started with the<br>\nshortlisting of the candidates from nine to five.<\/p>\n<p>\"We demand an open and transparent explanation about the<br>\nrequirement which was used (in the screening of the candidates),\"<br>\nhe told Antara.<\/p>\n<p>Atang and dozens of lecturers on Friday visited the Academic<br>\nSenate Secretariat (SA) to make the demand as they considered the<br>\nelection process undemocratic.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, students and academics from the institute elected<br>\nnine candidates. In the next process on Wednesday, the 54-member<br>\nAcademic Senate Secretariat (SA) shortlisted the nine candidates<br>\nto five through a secret vote. Economist Didik J. Rachbini as<br>\nwell as three other candidates, Agus Pakpahan, Irawadi Djamaran<br>\nand Siswadi, which got the most votes during the previous round,<br>\nlost in the race.<\/p>\n<p>They were beaten by AA Mattjik - who is also member of the SA<br>\n- Eriyatno, HM Aman Wirakartakusumah, Muhamad Achmad Chozin and<br>\nRizal Syarief.<\/p>\n<p>The institute's board of trustees will select two names, but<br>\nit has not decided when the selection process will take place,<br>\naccording to Ismudi Muchsin of the SA.<\/p>\n<p>Ismudi denied any irregularities in the electoral process,<br>\nsaying that everything was in accordance with the procedures.<\/p>\n<p>The rectorial election, which is open for candidates from<br>\noutside the campus, is being held by IPB for the first time in<br>\nits history. This is in accordance with its new status as the<br>\nstate-owned incorporated entity (BHMN). In 2000 that status was<br>\ngranted also to the University of Indonesia in Depok, Gadjah Mada<br>\nUniversity in Yogyakarta and the Bandung Institute of Technology.<\/p>",
