        "content": "<p>Students demand action on hunger<\/p>\n<p>SEMARANG, Central Java (JP): Some 250 students of the Semarang<br>\nState Islamic Institute (IAIN) staged a protest at the local<br>\nlegislative council here on Wednesday to demand immediate action<br>\nto overcome increasing malnutrition and starvation.<\/p>\n<p>Should prices continue to rise, their statement said, the<br>\ncountry would inevitably face \"a generation rife with poverty and<br>\nstupidity\".<\/p>\n<p>Muhtasith, the protest coordinator, said basic needs were not<br>\nonly inaccessible because of price but because of widely reported<br>\n\"cheating\" in the distribution system.<\/p>\n<p>Many \"barbaric\" officials \"have the heart to fish for their<br>\nown joy in the midst of people's suffering by hoarding basic<br>\ngoods and smuggling them out of the country,\" the statement said,<br>\nreferring to reports that traders have been profiting from higher<br>\nprices overseas due to the sinking rupiah against the dollar.<\/p>\n<p>\"If necessary, such officials should be hanged,\" the statement<br>\nsaid.
