Student's death investigated<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): West Jakarta District police chief Lt. Col. Made
\nMangku Pastika promised over the weekend to disclose the facts
\npertaining to the murder of a 19-year old student regiment
\nrecruit, who died as a result of physical mistreatment earlier
\nthis year.<\/p>\n
The victim, identified as Themanto, a student of the
\nprivately-owned Tarumanegara University, died on Jan. 29, after
\ntaking part in a basic training course for the university's
\nstudent regiment recruits.<\/p>\n
\"I promise that Themanto's murder case will be disclosed
\nentirely,\" Made said.<\/p>\n
According to Made, the suspect in the case, who was identified
\nas KF, was a fellow student of Tarumanegara university.<\/p>\n
During the investigation, it was found that the victim was
\nbeaten and maltreated. Police handed over the dossiers of the
\ncase to the prosecutor's office a month ago, Made said.<\/p>\n
However, Made declined to explain in detail why the suspect
\nwas not detained.<\/p>\n
The victim's mother, Jeo Bie Kim, reported Kompas daily,
\nquestioned why the suspect was still free. She also wondered why
\nthe dossiers had not been sent to the prosecutor's office.<\/p>\n
According to Mrs. Kim, she was informed by the prosecutor's
\noffice that the dossiers were sent back to the West Jakarta
\npolice because they were incomplete. According to reports, eight
\nsuspects were believed to have been involved, but the dossiers
\nnamed only one, Mrs. Kim said. (01)<\/p>",
