        "content": "<p>Students call on leaders to resign<\/p>\n<p>YOGYAKARTA: Dozens of students staged a protest at the front<br>\nof the local provincial council building on Saturday to demand<br>\nthe resignation of the country's four most prominent political<br>\nleaders -- President Abdurrahman Wahid, Vice President Megawati<br>\nSoekarnoputri, People's Consultative Assembly Speaker Amien Rais<br>\nand House Speaker Akbar Tandjung.<\/p>\n<p>The students said that it was better for the four to just quit<br>\ntheir posts rather than prolong the current political<br>\nuncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters were members of a splinter group of the<br>\nAssociation of Muslim Students.<\/p>\n<p>\"The sooner they resign the better. They no longer<br>\nstruggle for the sake of the people, they're not honest leaders,\"<br>\none protester shouted.<\/p>\n<p>\"They have betrayed the people's trust. The reform agenda<br>\nis at risk now,\" another protester said.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters shut the gate to the council office<br>\nand prohibited others from entering or leaving the building for<br>\nseveral hours.<\/p>\n<p>However, after they met council speaker Surasmo the students<br>\nagreed to open the gates and eventually dispersed peacefully.<br>\n(44)<\/p>",
