Students block Andi Ghalib<\/p>\n
MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Students at the State Islamic
\nInstitute (IAIN) prevented former attorney general Andi M. Ghalib
\nfrom promoting his new book on the campus on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
A discussion of the book, titled Menepis Badai Menegakkan
\nSupremasi Hukum (Avoiding the storm, upholding the supremacy of
\nthe law), scheduled be held at the institute had to be moved to
\nthe nearby provincial office of the Ministry of Religious
\nAffairs.<\/p>\n
IAIN student council chairman Atok Suharto said the book
\nrepresented Ghalib's attempt to defend his failure to uphold the
\nlaw during his term as attorney general.<\/p>\n
"We forbid Ghalib from coming here because he does not meet
\nour standards. He is just trying to justify his past actions in
\norder to make himself feel better," Atok told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
Ghalib said the students could not understand the contents of
\nhis book.<\/p>\n
In the book, Ghalib states that his efforts to try former
\npresident Soeharto for corruption were blocked by former
\npresident B.J. Habibie and former Indonesian Military
\nchief Gen. (ret) Wiranto. (27\/jun)<\/p>",
