Students attack police station<\/p>\n
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya (JP): Hundreds of angry students from
\nCendrawasih University attacked a police station in Abepura,
\nIrian Jaya on Tuesday, following a beating of one student by a
\npolice cadet.<\/p>\n
The students destroyed the building fences and windows, eye
\nwitnesses said.<\/p>\n
The incident was sparked by a group of people who teased and
\nshouted dirty words to the cadet. Irritated, he turned around and
\npunched one of the people.<\/p>\n
But the cadet mistakenly beat the university student, who
\nhappened to be standing there. Some other university students
\nattempted to intervene, but the angry cadet attacked them as
\nwell.<\/p>\n
Irian Jaya Police chief Brig. Gen. Silvianus Y. Wenas, met the
\nstudents on Wednesday and apologized for the cadet's action.<\/p>\n
Wenas promised to have the police cadet punished and asked the
\nCendrawasih University students to keep their cool.<\/p>\n
The cadet had tarnished 'the love approach' being promoted by
