        "content": "<p>JAKARTA \u2013 Students held a demonstration in front of the National\nPolice (Polri) headquarters in the Kebayoran Lama area, South Jakarta,\non Friday afternoon, 27 February 2026. The action took place under tight\npolice supervision, with officers lined up facing the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of police officers stood in rows facing the demonstrators. The\ntwo groups were separated by a road median planted with flowers.<\/p>\n<p>Several male police officers wore sorban and white kopiah headwear.\nFemale officers wore sorban as head covering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrdinary people are being oppressed; police should protect us,\u201d said\none protester addressing the officers.<\/p>\n<p>Police officers on duty appeared to provide no verbal response and\nmaintained blank expressions.<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrators also called for a meeting with Police Chief Brigadier\nGeneral Listyo Sigit Prabowo.<\/p>\n<p>The protesters\u2019 shouts and statements were countered by police\nofficers who chanted Islamic prayers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome on everyone. May Allah\u2019s prayers and peace be upon Prophet\nMuhammad. Ensure your actions remain disciplined and measured. During\nthis holy month of Ramadan, we serve the community with Islamic\nprayers,\u201d Suheri said during a briefing before the security operation\nbegan.<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrators demanded that those responsible be given severe\npunishment. They also called for the National Police Chief and Maluku\nRegional Police Commander to be removed from their positions as\naccountability.
