Student dies after physical training<\/p>\n
BANDUNG: Bandung Police will investigate the death of a
\nfreshman at Parahyangan University in Bandung, who reportedly
\ndied due to excessive physical training during campus guard
\n(Menwa) training on the campus starting July 12.<\/p>\n
Adj. Sr. Comr. Siswadi told The Jakarta Post on Sunday that an
\ninvestigation would commence despite the fact that the victim's
\nparents had not yet reported the matter to the police.<\/p>\n
\"I've heard about the student's death. In my opinion the
\nuniversity has tried to cover up the case.\"<\/p>\n
He said the police would question people believed to know
\nabout the death of Herik Tanuwijaya, 18.<\/p>\n
Herik, a student of the economics school, died last Friday at
\nBorromeus Hospital in Bandung after being treated since Aug. 14.
\nThe Menwa training is scheduled to end on Aug. 28.<\/p>\n
Rully Rusli, an internist who had treated Herik at Borromeus,
\nconfirmed that Herik died from excessive strain on his body.<\/p>\n
Herik had suffered from organ failure, including his lungs and
\nkidneys.<\/p>\n
Quoting Herik's parents, Rully said that Herik's health
\nrecords had been good.<\/p>\n
The university has yet to clarify the case.<\/p>\n
Two rector's assistants, Yohanes Gunawan and Fx. Budi Widodo,
\nwere not available on Sunday when the Post tried to contact them
\nfor clarification.<\/p>\n
Rully said that the hospital would review the laboratory
\nresults of Herik's health on Monday. (25\/sur)<\/p>",
