        "content": "<p>Student detained for libel<\/p>\n<p>MANOKWARI, Irian Jaya: A student of the state-run Cenderawasih<br>\nUniversity in Jayapura has been arrested for allegedly defaming<br>\nthe Manokwari police.<\/p>\n<p>Lt. Col. Tjahjo Hernoadi, Manokwari police chief, said he<br>\nordered the arrest of the student, identified by Antara only by<br>\nhis initials SR, for libelous remarks made in a letter published<br>\nby the Cenderawasih Pos newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>In the letter, SR accused the police of unlawfully preventing<br>\nhis brother in-law, identified as Yustinus Hurulean, from leaving<br>\ntown and of extorting Rp 100,000 from him.<\/p>\n<p>Tjahjo said Yustinus had been ordered not to leave town<br>\nbecause he has a pending court hearing on charges of assault.<\/p>\n<p>He denied the extortion charges saying that Yustinus gave Rp<br>\n100,000 to police investigators in gratitude for treating him<br>\nwell during the interrogation.
