A student community in Jakarta organised a peaceful petition drive called 'Guard Peaceful Indonesia' during the Car Free Day at Bundaran HI, focusing on preventing brawls and promoting social harmony. Participants, under the Persatuan Intelektual Muda dan Pelajar Indonesia (Pionir) group, encouraged citizens to sign a white cloth banner and educated them on avoiding unverified provocations that could divide the nation, while also addressing concerns over the government's Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. The initiative highlights youth-led efforts to foster unity and critically engage with public policies amid rising social tensions.

A student community in Jakarta held an action to create the ‘Guard
Peaceful Indonesia’ petition at the Car Free Day (CFD) at Bundaran HI.
They raised issues regarding brawls up to the Free Nutritious Meals
programme.

Observations by detikcom at the location on Sunday (26/4/2026) showed
them laying out a white cloth around the Welcome Monument. The cloth was
then signed by residents who saw it and were active in the surrounding
area.

The action began with a healthy walk at Bundaran HI. They then
stopped to invite residents to affix their signatures.

During the action, the students also explained the purpose of the
petition. They were represented by the Persatuan Intelektual Muda dan
Pelajar Indonesia (Pionir) community.

One student representative, Nur Aira Adiasti, said the petition
invites residents not to be easily provoked by unverified news.
According to her, unclear news has the potential to divide
Indonesia.

“We reject the provocateurs who divide Indonesia’s unity,” said Aira
when met at the location.

Aira said that as students, they are concerned about the frequent
brawls, especially in Jakarta. They claim to often create content and
conduct surveys as efforts to prevent brawls.

“From small things we can do, like creating video content about the
dangers of brawls, causes, consequences, and education around brawls. Or
perhaps our friends can conduct field surveys to follow up on those
cases,” she explained.

In addition, Aira mentioned concern over the central government’s
Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme issue. According to her, there is
still much homework in implementing that programme, which triggers many
comments and provocations.

“The recent issues, like the viral MBG one, from the SPPG side might
be problematic. Thus triggering a lot of anger, then buzzers play,
leading to mutual attacks and unproductive actions,” she said.

Aira emphasised that students, as recipients of the programme, must
join in safeguarding it. Therefore, according to her, students must care
about these issues.

“Because we as students receiving the programme also want to
safeguard it together,” she said.
",
