Student arrested for bomb threats<\/p>\n
UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: A student has been arrested in
\nconnection with a number of bomb threats received in prominent
\npublic buildings here in recent weeks, police said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The student, 24-year-old Zulhamdi alias Dedi, is a student at
\na private Jakarta-based college and a former member of City Forum
\n(Forum Kota) student activists' group, police said.<\/p>\n
Police chief Brig. Gen. Mudji Santoso said Zulhamdi was
\ncharged after police listened to recordings of telephoned bomb
\nthreats and decided that it was the suspect's voice.<\/p>\n
He said Zulhamdi confessed to the crimes without coercion.<\/p>\n
In recent weeks, Bomb threats have been reported at the Al
\nMarkaz Al Islami Mosque, Hasanuddin University, Balla Tamalanrea
\nchurch, the Muhammadiyah mosque and a number of other religious
\nbuildings.<\/p>\n
Similar threats have also been made to the Sedona Hotel, the
\nStella Maria and Bertha hospitals, the state electricity firm PLN
\nand a number of schools.<\/p>\n
Police said Zulhamdi was intent on disrupting the city in the
\nrun-up to the general election. Residents were warned against
\nbeing easily incited to violence by provocateurs. (27\/30)<\/p>",
