Two weeks after activist Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid by four active Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) intelligence members, the investigation remains stalled at Metro Jaya Police, with no updates on the suspects' status or motives. National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Commissioner Amruddin Al Rahab is pushing for the case to be transferred to the National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri) due to its complexity and lack of progress. This incident highlights accountability issues involving military personnel and underscores the need for transparent handling to ensure justice for human rights advocates.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - It has been two weeks since Andrie Yunus, an
activist from the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence
(Kontras), became a victim of an acid attack. The irony that has now
become fact is that the perpetrators of the acid attack are four active
members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) from the Strategic
Intelligence Agency (BAIS). Their initials are Captain NDP, Lieutenant
SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES. These initials were revealed on 18
March 2026. Two weeks later, the status of the perpetrators, who are
said to be detained in a super maximum security facility, remains
unknown. The case has ground to a halt, with the latest investigation
unclear even though 12 days have passed since the perpetrators’ initials
were revealed. Requests for information with approximately 15 questions
have yielded no clarity that can be disclosed to the public.
Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission of Indonesia
(Komnas HAM RI), Saurlin Siagian, stated that they still need data,
particularly from the TNI side, to complete the monitoring of the case.
“We will continue to monitor this case and in the near future we will
summon the TNI parties,” he explained. There is no new information
regarding the investigation into the Andrie Yunus acid attack case. The
perpetrators are still referred to with the term “alleged suspects,” and
the motive remains unclear and is still being explored. Amid the
uncertainty of the investigation conducted both at Metro Police and the
TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom), Member of Komnas HAM RI Amruddin Al
Rahab is urging a transfer in handling. This case is deemed too heavy
for Metro Jaya Police to handle, so nearly two weeks since the latest
news, there has been no progress that the public can hear. He outlined
three reasons why this case must be transferred to Bareskrim Polri.
",
