The Lebakngok bridge in Cirebon is being eroded by strong river\ncurrents, with parts of the road almost hanging over the water.\nImmediate action is being taken to ensure that access for residents is\nnot cut off.<\/p>\n
The Cimanuk-Cisanggarung River Basin Authority (BBWS Cimancis) will\nimmediately carry out repairs on the Lebakngok bridge in Argasunya\nVillage, Harjamukti District, which has been eroded by strong river\ncurrents. \u201cWe will install riprap and prepare a flow breaker on the\nLebakngok bridge. This step is taken as an effort to prevent the\nbridge\u2019s foundation from being further eroded, especially if further\nflooding occurs,\u201d said Head of BBWS Cimancis, Dwi Agus Kuncoro, on\nWednesday (February 25).<\/p>\n
Repairs will focus on controlling the river flow so that it no longer\nhits the unstable banks around the bridge\u2019s foundation. \u201cSo that if\nthere is another flood, the water will be directed and will not hit the\nriver bank on the side of the vulnerable land,\u201d said Dwi.<\/p>\n
In the initial stage, BBWS is normalizing the river flow to stabilize\nthe current and reduce water pressure on the bridge structure. After the\ncurrent is controlled, reinforcement will be carried out on the base of\nthe pillar using the riprap method or arranging stones around the\nfoundation. \u201cThe pillar is still strong enough, so we will focus on\nprotecting its base first with stones from around the location to be\nmore efficient,\u201d explained Dwi.<\/p>\n
The work process will begin this week with the support of heavy\nequipment that enters through the downstream river route. The work is\ntargeted to be completed in the next few weeks, while observing the\ndevelopment of field conditions and the river\u2019s water discharge.<\/p>\n
When asked about the cause of the erosion of the Lebakngok bridge\nfoundation, Dwi said that geologically, the area is dominated by clay\nstones that are easily eroded. This condition makes a number of\ninfrastructure in the area have a fairly high level of vulnerability\nwhen river currents are strong, such as during this rainy season. In\naddition to soil factors, the lack of vegetation on the river bank also\naccelerates the erosion process. \u201cSo natural protection such as\nsoil-retaining plants needs to be maintained,\u201d said Dwi.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Cirebon, Effendi Edo, said that the repair of\nthe Lebakngok bridge is important because it is an important connecting\naccess for residents. \u201cThe local government is collaborating with BBWS\nfor accelerated repair efforts because the bridge is a very important\nconnecting access for residents,\u201d said Edo.<\/p>\n
Edo also said that in addition to riprap, a flow breaker will also be\ninstalled about 50 meters from the bridge to reduce water pressure\ntowards the bank. It is targeted that in the next few weeks, road access\ncan return to normal, while waiting for further budgeting for\ncomprehensive infrastructure strengthening.<\/p>\n
As is known, the Lebakngok bridge was once eroded by river currents\nuntil almost part of the road. The soil under the road collapsed into\nthe river, while four-wheeled vehicles can no longer pass for the time\nbeing. (H-3)<\/p>\n
